An exquisite German high quality and detailed hunting sword. Double edged Damascus steel blade with twin fullers on each side, adorned with detailed etched motifs and gilt finish highlights. Designs include two depictions of a rifle and hunting ensemble, a scene of three hounds taking down a wild boar, foliage, acanthus leaves, scrolls, crossed rifles, and oak leaves. Ricasso inscribed "Solingen" on one side and "P.D.L." on the other (Luneschloss Solingen). Ornate cast brass hilt with nickel finish, guard features relief wild cats on each side, languette with relief depictions of dead game, including a boar's head, a buck, and a goose. Grip features a coiled snake, a nude figure, as well as a perched eagle on the pommel. Complete with brown leather scabbard with engraved brass mounts and stud with a detailed mask on the front, mounts have traces of nickel finish. Very good condition, blade shows some light wear and a few scattered dark spots, still retains generous traces of gilt finish. Hilt and handle retain nickel finish in protected and low areas. Scabbard very good with some minor losses to finish and creases.
