Offered is your basic trapdoor with an 1878 dated block and a Samuel W. Porter cartouche dated 1886 in virtually unissued condition. Features an 1884 rear sight, "VP" eagle head proof on left side of barrel, "A" on top of barrel, "S.W.P. 1886" on left side of stock, cursive "P" on bottom of stock, "U.S." on top of buttplate, "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" on sideplate, two barrel bands, metal cleaning rod, metal forend tip, sling swivels. Block and tang retain virtually all of the brilliant case colors. 98-99% overall blue finish on remainder of rifle, still bright. Trigger guard retains approximately 90% original high polish blue. Walnut stock is excellent to near mint with a few minor dings. Mirror bore and perfect action. A little bit of light wear to blue at muzzle and some high edge muzzle wear. Even the barrel bands retain virtually all of the original blue. Buttplate retains 80% of the bright, high polish blue. Complete with an unissued "U.S." marked bayonet with 98% factory blue finish and metal scabbard with New Jersey Militia marked leather frog. Springfield research.
