Manufactured 1856. All matching numbers including wedge and lever. Approximately 10,500 Third Model Dragoons were manufactured 1851 to 1861. Standard revolver: six shot, single action, brass trigger guard and backstrap, and one piece walnut grips. Colt patent on left side of frame. All metal surfaces are an age spotted patina with several areas of salt and pepper. Rounded crown from riding in holster. No visible cylinder scene but serial number is readable. Inspector mark "H" on backstrap and "G" on trigger guard. All original nipples. Uncleaned brass. Walnut stocks are very good and slightly shy at toe. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Strong rifling with minor black powder abrasion. Readable barrel address. This is typical of an attic-found big frame Dragoon. These huge Colts were the most powerful handgun in the world until the introduction of the .357 Magnum, and even today they are still a handful. Iconic, early Colt big bore horse or belt revolver.
