Originally shipped as a 7-1/2" Cavalry revolver, Henry Nettleton inspected, and sold to the United States government on September 12, 1878 in a shipment of 150 guns. Approximately 5,444 mismatched Artillery Models were refurbished by the government arsenal from 1900 to 1903; this is one such revolver. Barrel has been cut to 5-1/2" or is more than likely a replacement barrel, as it has the one line address with proof "P" at base and no serial number. The trigger guard is serial no. 120130. Frame has three line patent date with U.S. stamp on left side. Backstrap is no. 115022 with "G" inspector mark. The only serial number still visible on the cylinder is "53". Has a proof "P" and inspector mark is not visible. Original one piece walnut grips are in excellent condition; no number in channel. All legends are easily readable. Barrel is a blue-grey patina. Cylinder is a light brown patina, as is backstrap and trigger guard. Frame colors have silvered out. Most screws have slight disfiguration. Strong, clean bore. Indexes and locks up like new.
