During the 1900-1903 period, Cavalry revolvers were inspected, barrels cut to 5-1/2", and rebuilt using serviceable parts from numerous revolvers. Very few remained in original all matching condition in which all numbered parts were in good enough condition as to not be replaced. This Artillery revolver is an all original matching number David F. Clark inspected Cavalry revolver where all numbered parts are matching. Extremely scarce to find on an Artillery conversion. Factory letter states this revolver was original shipped to the U.S. Government on March 8, 1887. The inspector "D.F.C." mark can be found stamped above the serial number. Barrel is stamped 0779 along with "D.F.C." stamped and proof "P". Trigger guard is stamped 120779 as is backstrap. Cylinder is stamped 0779 with proof "P" and "D.F.C." stamp. The one piece walnut grips have the original penciled serial number 0779 in channel with a sharp "D.F.C." cartouche in script on right side, and stamped "D.F.C." at base. Frame has the three line patent date with "U.S." on left side. Revolver is basically a soft grey patina. Top barrel markings are thin. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Sharp rifling with minor black powder abrasion. Very unusual, all matching number David F. Clark Artillery overhaul.
