The frame of this revolver is an early series "D.F.C." that was rebuilt during the overhaul period from 1900 to 1903. Frame is serial no. 54529 with "D.F.C." stamp. Barrel is stamped "R.A.C." with no number. Trigger guard is stamped 54207, also from the "D.F.C." time frame. Backstrap is stamped 34740 from the John T. Cleveland series. Back of the cylinder is stamped "R.A.C." with no serial number. Three line patent date and "U.S." on left side. One piece walnut grips have a visible but not readable light cartouche on right panel in oval. One line barrel address. This revolver remains in excellent condition with razor sharp legends. Barrel retains approximately 30% blue, bright under housing. 70% bright blue on trigger guard. 60% blue turning patina on backstrap. Cylinder is a blue-brown-grey patina with some bright blue in flutes. Housing has blue in recesses. Frame retains approximately 30% original case colors; balance greyed out. Most screws are sharp and retain some Nitre finish. Grips are excellent. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Strong, clean bore. Excellent example of an Artillery Colt with lots of condition; far better than most.
