This is a double action revolver built on the square butt N frame with five screw. Introduced for the U.S. Army on September 17th, 1917 to January 1919. The butt it stamped "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917" along with serial number and lanyard loop. Bottom of barrel is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Has the U.S. Ordnance bomb on left side of frame. Stamped with eagle head inspector mark on left side of trigger guard, which would put manufacture from April 1918 to end of war. It is a six shot with blued finish, case colored hammer and trigger, and plain walnut grips. Excellent pair of unmarked original walnut grips with no cracks or chips. Revolver shows little to no use, except for some storage wear on sides of cylinder, top of frame and at muzzle. Strong case colors on hammer and trigger. Strong rifled bore with some minor abrasion. Revolver comes in an original World War I rig to include a unit marked U.S. flap holster with lanyard, dated 1917 on back; World War I web belt; and a special three-compartment web pouch made to hold loaded half-moon clips of .45 ACP ammunition. Very fine all original example of World War I U.S. issue large frame revolver.
