Only about 2,000 pistols made, including both types, manufactured between 1811 and 1813. Round smoothbore steel barrel stamped "P/US" on left side of breech. Flat lockplate with brass pan and reinforced cock, center of lockplate stamped "U. STATES" over an eagle, tail stamped vertically "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON. Brass furniture, including "S" sideplate, buttcap, and French type triggerguard, with a steel Wickham barrel band. Walnut half-stock with wooden ramrod, left side stamped behind belt hook with inspectors mark. Very good condition, steel components have been cleaned and retain a spotted grey patina with some minor freckling. Lock appears to be original flint. Stock refinished with a few scattered marks and two small pieces replaced around triggerguard pins. This is a fine example of a very scarce transitional pistol, most likely carried during the War of 1812.
