Only 3,000 of these pistols were made between 1808 and 1810 by Simeon North. Unmarked round steel smoothbore barrel. Flat lockplate with beveled edges, marked in center with large eagle over "U. STATES" and vertically on tang "S. NORTH/BERLIN,/CON.", brass pan and reinforced cock. Standard brass Model 1808 Furniture with steel belt hook mounted on sideplate on left side. Full length walnut stock with wooden ramrod. Very good condition, steel components have been cleaned bright and have some scattered spotting. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock mechanism. Brass has a mellow patina and belt hook is replaced. Stock good, as refinished, with crack around wrist, a few minor repairs and a few scattered light marks. This is a very nice example to acquire this scarcely encountered early American naval pistol.
