About 1200 pistols of this model were manufactured by Deringer, but only 300 are estimated to have been accepted by the Navy. Round smoothbore steel barrel with traces of "DERINGER/RP" markings and small brass front sight. Flat internal mechanism percussion lockplate, deeply stamped "US/DERINGER/PHILADELA" in center. Standard brass Model 1842 Navy furniture includes round buttcap with screw in center, plain triggerguard, and barrel band. Steel swivel-type ramrod. Plain walnut half stock with flat grip. Very good condition, all steel components have been cleaned bright and have a few scattered areas of freckling, barrel markings faint and partially visible. Lock markings possibly re-applied. Brass retains a mellowing patina. Stock very good with a few light marks from use.
