Metropolitan Arms of New York City produced this near exact copy of the Colt 1851 Navy from 1864 to 1866. This is an early First Model with plain cylinder and did not have any manufacture markings. About 300 of the First Model production was sold to the firm of H.E. Dimick; of this number, only 100 were marked on the barrel "H.E. DIMICK - ST. LOUIS", this revolver is so marked. Matching serial number on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and loading lever. Wedge is not stamped. Features a brass backstrap and trigger guard, one piece varnished walnut grips, six shot, post front sight. Brass has not been cleaned. Grips are excellent with most of the original varnish. Balance of metal is a clean, smooth grey patina. Sharp screw heads. Dimick engraving is sharp. With only 100 originally made and so stamped, this is one of the great rarities amongst collectors of 1851 Navy's and their types. Indexes and locks up like new. Strong rifled bore. An extremely rare revolver.
