These were manufactured from 1851 to 1854 in Windsor, Vermont. This is a Type A with top barrel release. These are interesting guns in that the barrel unscrews, the front assembly is released forward and 1" cylinder section is loaded and percussion caps attached; the barrel is then screwed back in place. Operates with a rotating straight line firing pin. The cylinder and barrel is rotated by the ring lever and fired by pulling back on the trigger. Is it a saw-handle design with two piece varnished walnut grips. Light engraving on cylinder and frame. Metal is basically a soft grey patina. Nice screws. Excellent grips. Strong rifling. The barrel is stationary when fired and the different chambers are ignited by the rotating firing pin. Barrel is stamped with maker, address and patent date.
