There were only 2,000 pistols of this model produced between 1811 and 1813 by Simeon North. This is one of two types, the other type has a Wickham barrel band. Round steel smoothbore barrel, stamped with "US", eagle head over "CT" inspector's proof and "V" on left side, near breech. Flat lockplate stamped with large eagle over "U. STATES" in center, tail stamped "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON." vertically, brass pan and reinforced cock. Standard brass furniture similar to that of the Model 1808 Navy pistol, but with "S" shaped sideplate. Full length walnut stock stamped with indistinct inspector's cartouche, on left side, behind sideplate. Wooden ramrod. Barrel and lock retain a grey patina with some scattered spotting and freckling. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration, markings partially worn, but still visible. Brass retains a mellow patina with a light marks. Stock good, as refinished, with a few age cracks and scattered marks from use. This is a hard to find and early transitional martial pistol, not often offered for sale.
