These pistols were made in very limited quantities and very few exist today. This pistol probably dates to the War of 1812 period and was made for a state militia contract. Round steel smoothbore barrel is stamped with a deeply struck "P" circular proof, and stamped "J. HENRY PHILA" on top, near breech. Flat lockplate with beveled edges, stamped with large "U-S" in center, tail stamped "J. HENRY/PHILA." vertically, features reinforced cock. Standard brass brass 1807-1808 contract-type plain brass furniture. Full length walnut stock and wooden ramrod. Barrel and lock retain a brown patina with some scattered light freckling. Lock probably in original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow patina with a few light scattered marks. Stock very good with a few scattered marks from use. This is a seldom encountered contract pistol and little is known about its history.
