Only 3,000 of these pistols were made by Simeon North between 1808 and 1810. They feature a steel belt hook for naval use. Round steel smoothbore barrel is unmarked, which is correct for this model. Flat lockplate stamped with large eagle over double-stamped (overstamped) "U. STATES" in center, tail stamped "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON." vertically, brass pan and reinforced cock. Standard brass Model 1808 furniture. Full length walnut stock and wooden ramrod. Barrel and lock have been cleaned and have some scattered marks and dark spots. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow patina with a few scattered marks. Stock very good with a few scattered marks from use. Belt hook is a replacement. This is a particularly nice example of the earliest naval pistol used by the United States.
