Approximately 6,000 of these large bore pistols were manufactured for the military from 1872 to 1888. Left side of the frame has the patent date stamps with the large "P" and "S" stamps. Features a blued barrel, case colored frame, walnut forend and one piece walnut grips. Left grip panel has a cartouche in script of "C.R.S." for Curtis Roby Stickney, the most commonly found inspector for the Remington Model 1871 Army. He inspected the entire lot of 5,000 made for the government. Operates perfectly. Strong, clean rifling. All metal is basically a grey patina. Wood is excellent with usual dings.
