This is a very interesting, early photo album. It begins approximately 1916 at the New York Military Academy of which Powelson was a member. Several pages of autographs, addresses, dance cards, glued-in cigarettes. Powelson, while a member of the New York Military Academy, spent his summers out west in Montana as a cowhand. Several pictures show him at camp as Last River, Beaver Creek and while branding cattle. There are at least eight pages with six to eight photos each that all feature early, real photographs of Powelson and associates dressed in Western garb performing the tasks on the range. There are even numerous photos of Native American camps and Native Americans in traditional dress. The pop-up dance cards are very interesting and there are at least six or seven. There are typical greeting cards, postcards, military academy literature, telegrams, military IDs and calling cards, sick reports and damsels. Included with this lot are some variously sized cabinet cards of a cattle drive and pen, a cowboy camp, cowboy in front of cabin, a cowboy shaving; four large formal military photos, and five 5x7" photographs of teepee, Native Americans on parade, an old brewing company, early Western Main Street. Many photographs are labeled with names, dates and locations. Very interesting and a few frameable photographs dealing with the Old West and the life of a cowboy.
