This is an early "First First". Features humpback hammer, scoop flute cylinder, double detent pins above trigger guard, and the early first style red marbled gutta percha grips. All markings are sharp on barrel. No markings on left side of frame. "489" is stamped on the butt with "KHH". "KHH" is stamped twice on the forward portion of the cylinder as well. Gun is devoid of any finish. Appears to have been cleaned at one time. Most of the frame screws are marred. Sideplate has been removed and refitted. Hammer spur has been repaired. Checkering on grips has basically worn smooth. Strong rifling. Indexes but doesn't lock up. Large gap between barrel and cylinder; not safe to shoot. This gun appears to have seen a lot of wear on the Western Frontier and is a good example of the early First Model Merwins in the rare .44 Merwin caliber.
