This is a standard issue trapdoor Indian Wars rifle. Block is stamped "U.S. MODEL 1873". Left side of barrel has the "V.P." eagle head proof. Top of barrel is stamped with an "A". Has a Model 1884 rear sight, standard post front sight, two barrel bands with metal forend tip, metal cleaning rod, two sling swivels on front band, sling swivel on trigger guard, one piece walnut stock, "U.S." stamped buttplate, sideplate is stamped "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" with eagle. Left side of stock is stamped with a strong "S.W.P." (Sam Porter) cartouche and dated 1885. Has a cursive "P" in circle on bottom of stock. Trigger guard retains approximately 75% blue turning patina. Stock is excellent with a few usual dings. Barrel bands are stamped with "U". Black case colors have nickeled out. Traces of blue on sideplate and hammer. Barrel is basically a soft brown patina. Fine action. Strong, clean rifled bore. Nice, honest Indian Wars trapdoor rifle.
