Complete with two sets of barrels; the first a 24" set of round barrels, both rifled, of Damascus steel with patent breeches and engraved clean-out valves on each bolster, finely chiseled scroll work on the side of each barrel near the breech, solid rib engraved "J.E. HOERNING IN HAMBURG" and fitted with rear sight with folding leaf and adjustable front blade sight. Wooden ramrod mounted below with brass cap and brass tipped with ball puller. Steel ramrod ferrules with sling swivels. The second set of 28" barrels, the right barrel is rifled and the left is smoothbore; both Damascus steel and decorated en suite with the other set. Also marked with the same markings and with a folding sight that is flush with the rib when folded down. Twin percussion locks with rope engraved borders and rounded hammer faces. Engraved fences on each side integral with tang. Double adjustable triggers. Partially figured walnut stock with straight English style stock and with checkered panels on forearm and around wrist. Caved with relief beavertails around both lockplates. Finely engraved steel patchbox on right side and steel and horn trigger guard engraved en suite. Small entry ferrule/nose cap also engraved. Small brass wrist escutcheon behind barrel tang. Complete with English style mahogany case with brass handled circular lid escutcheon and corner protectors. Partitioned interior lined with green felt complete with copper flask with powder measured spout and basket weave and leaf pattern embossed on each side, and bullet mold. Very good condition; rifled set of barrels retains 70-80% of brown Damascus finish. Bores are excellent and shiny, showing little use. Other set of barrels is good with much of Damascus still visible, but mostly turned to a grey patina with some scattered marks and one small area filed on right barrel. Bores are very good with some light freckling. Actions are strong and retain a light grey patina with some darkening. Steel furniture retains a matching light grey patina with only some light freckling. Stock is very good with some scattered marks from use. Case very good; lid has some cracks and scattered scratches. Interior has been relined and has some minor staining. Overall this is a wonderful and complete set in excellent condition by a master German gunsmith.
