Barrel is dated "SA 3-38" with Ordnance bomb. Many Springfield aficionados consider the between-the-wars Springfields, especially from the 1930's, to be some of the finest rifles ever made. Has the dull matte military finish, all milled parts, smooth steel buttplate with trapdoor, walnut forend with sight groove, and two bolt stock with finger groove. No visible cartouche, so either refinished or this is a replacement stock. Metal retains approximately 98% or better of the arsenal finish. Stock is excellent. Original period sling. ME reading: 1. TE reading: 3. This fine rifle should make a great shooter. Barrel has the star gauge.
