Constructed of oak and tin. The front with a large tin panel in the center, displaying a detailed repousse scene of the Belgian castle Herlaar and inscribed "Kasteel van Herlaar". On each side, detailed repousse panels of men in armor, one titled "Johannes Herrnberger" and the other "Johannes Rverbervs". Engraved iron corner protectors and straps held in place by decorated rivets. Wooden molding around base. Each side with a decorated steel handle. Interior lined with cushioned purple velour. Measures 23-3/4" wide x 13" tall x 9" deep. Excellent condition with some scattered marks. Bottom of lock, where latch catches, is absent and two rivets are missing from lock, on lid. Dark patina overall, showing significant age. A very interesting and decorative coffer, great for display with armor.
