Two stage blunderbuss barrel marked on top flat "JO STECKEL". Brass inlay of family crest in sight dovetail. Flintlock mechanism with engraved brass lockplate with scenes of dogs hunting deer and inscribed below pan "JOHANN STEKEL" and vertically behind the cock "IN WIEN". Chiseled and engraved steel cock, and spring and frizzen with scalloping and engraving. Brass mounts include two piece trigger guard with engraved Acanthus leaf finial, cast relief sideplate. Wooden wrist escutcheon with the initials "CM". Walnut stock with relief carving around ramrod entry ferrule and with a button at the bottom of the wrist escutcheon which allows the hinged butt to fold down, making it more compact. Good condition; barrel retains a dark brown patina with scattered areas of corrosion near the muzzle. Lock excellent showing some light wear and in original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock good with some splintering along forend and some chipping behind barrel tang and on wrist escutcheon, with a few scattered marks from use.
