Revolutionary War period boxlock pistol. Tapered steel cannon barrel with lug on bottom for removal, series of turnings and numbered "1" on bottom of barrel and breech. Breech marked with 3 English proofs, including crown over "V" and "P" for view and proof. Scalloped steel boxloxk action engraved on both sides, one side engraved with "W. SHEPHERD" in a banner and the other "LONDON" in a banner, rocker panel engraved borders. Steel triggerguard and plain walnut grip. Very good condition, one action screw on top is absent and frizzen spring has no tension, otherwise excellent with even grey patina and excellent markings and engraving. Grip excellent with a few scattered marks and minor shrinkage around action. Top jaw screw probably a period replacement. This is an excellent example of an 18th century gentleman's pocket pistol.
