Large holster pistol or target pistol size with heavy octagonal steel barrel with patent breech decorated with scroll engraving, tang also decorated with scroll engraving. Flat back action percussion lockplate engraved with scrolls and "TRYON / MERRICK / & CO.", engraved hammer with rounded face. Engraved steel furniture with plain German silver barrel key escutcheons and end cap. Checkered plain walnut half stock, replaced wooden ramrod with brass tip. Excellent condition; barrel and lock retain a light grey patina and show little wear. Stock excellent with a few light scattered marks and minor age cracks. This is an unusually large deringer style pistol made by well-known Philadelphia makers.
