Benjamin Franklin Vore lived between 1814 and 1886 and worked in Bedford and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. This well-made example of his later work features an octagonal rifled steel barrel signed "B. Vore" on top flat, in script. Punch-decorated muzzle face. Flat Bedford County style percussion lockplate marked "BV" in center, engraved borders and sprig of engraving at rear tang, classic Bedford type hammer. Features double set triggers. Brass furniture includes sideplate with engraved broken line border and inscribed with date "1881". Full-length figured maple stock of familiar Bedford County form. Hickory ramrod appears to be original. Good condition with light grey patina on barrel and lock, markings clear, some freckling around breech and bolster and some scattered dark spotting. Brass retains a mellow patina and date is clear on sideplate. Stock good, as refinished, with a well-done repair at wrist and some minor repairs to forend, also scattered marks from use. Overall, a very attractive Bedford style rifle by a scarce maker.
