This fine rifle features two stage rifled steel barrels, the top flat of one stamped "J. WORLY", the top flat of the other signed "N*W" in script, possibly for Nathaniel Wise. Wise worked in Union Township in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, he is listed in around 1850. Both barrels with front and rear sights and barrels unlock by pushing a round button, located on top of the elongated breech tang. Each barrel is fitted with a percussion bolster and nipple, barrels separated with a steel rib, ramrod on one side and both sides with half-stock figured maple stock. Flat stamp engraved back-action percussion lockplate stamped "TRYON/PHILADELPHIA" in center, double set triggers. Brass furniture includes a four-piece engraved patchbox with seven piercings and a classic Upper Susquehanna finial. Sideplate of steel and mirrors the shape of the back-action lockplate with engraved single line border. Shaped brass comb-plate and full toeplate extending to underneath triggerguard. Silver oval-shaped inlay above cheekpiece with a small heart inlay on left side of wrist, engraved with a simple borders. Figured maple half-stock of typical Upper Susquehanna form with elongated oval-shaped silver in,lays on each side. Hickory ramrod appears to be original. Very good condition with grey patina on barrel and lock, markings clear, some light wear, freckling around breech and bolster, and light scattered marks. Brass is unpolished and shows little wear, engraving is sharp. Stock excellent with a few scattered marks from use and a few minor age cracks. Overall, a very attractive and original swivel breech rifle in very nice condition.
