This is a handsome and well made American shotgun by well known Philadelphia gun maker John Krider circa 1860. His shop was located at the intersection of 2nd street and Walnut street in Philadelphia at this time. Round smooth bore steel barrels with concave matte rib engraved "PHILADELPHIA", patent breeches, twin percussion locks, finely engraved with intricate English style scrolls and both marked "J.P KRIDER", hammers engraved en suite. Features also include, double triggers and fences. Partially figured walnut half stock with straight butt and checkered panels on forearm and wrist. Engraved steel butt plate trigger guard and ram rod entry ferrule. Wooden ram rod with steel tip. Very good condition. Barrels and locks retain a spotted brown patina, some freckling near breeches. Engravings and markings are excellent. Steel furniture retains a matching patina. Stock very good with some wear to checkering and scattered marks, crack around wrist repaired.
