Slightly curved single fuller blade featuring etched panel on right side with scrolls and patriotic eagle, the other side with scrolls and large "U.S." and on left side of ricasso with maker's markings "MINTZER/PHILADA." Standard Model 1850 cast brass hilt with gilt finish, pierced guard and shark skin wrapped grip with braided copper wire. Complete with black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Scabbard inscribed on left side of drag "Presented to/Capt. Charles C. Conley/Co. F. 133rd Penna. V./July 4, 1862." Good, untouched and as found condition, blade retains a grey spotted patina with some sharpening marks and nicks on edge. Hilt dark and unpolished with traces of gilt finish in protected areas and a few scattered marks from use, grip excellent. Scabbard good, with two breaks being held together with tape, some traces of original surface and scattered light scuffs, brass unpolished, some denting and scattered marks, with clear presentation. A very nice Civil and original War presentation sword by a scarce maker and presented on the Fourth of July!
