This rare model is referred to in the Merwin Hulbert book by Phelps, page 36, as a 1st Model. It has a hole in the fixed right recoil shield that does not move up or down. Other features are scoop flute cylinder, five shot, full rib, solid hammer, spur trigger, nickel finish with dog head black composite original grips. The end of the cylinder shows no signs that this revolver has ever been fired. Colors on hammer and trigger have darkened. Retains approximately 95% original factory nickel. Grips are near mint. Near mint bore. These are often referred to as the Automatic Revolver. Barrel can be removed and exchanged with other barrels. We do not know how many of these solid shield loading examples were manufactured, but this is the first we have seen and they are very scarce. First year production weapon; it would be nearly impossible to find a better example of this rare Merwin.
