The Winchester factory letter states this rifle was shipped on August 10, 1897 as follows: Rifle, 38-55, octagon barrel, full magazine, plain trigger, Lyman front sight, shotgun butt, takedown. Every listed feature is correct for this rifle. The barrel retains approximately 90% original factory blue with razor sharp legends in standard sporting rear-sight. The tube retains 85% blue mixing plum with take down lever. Frame retains approximately 85-90% of the brilliant factory blue with balance mixing patina. Brilliant case colors on lever and hammer, walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal. The steel shotgun buttplate retains approximately 75% brilliant blue. Strong clean bore. An extremely handsome antique special order 38-55 Model 1894 rifle.
