Curved single fullered steel blade. Solid silver reverse-P hilt with faceted knuckle bow and forward curved quillon. Wooden grip wrapped with black leather, silver ferrule at front. Complete with original black leather scabbard with silver mounts, frog, and attached homespun crossbelt. For a similar example, see Ward & Bartholomew sword in figure 185 on page 198 of "American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords: Volume I" by Daniel D. Hartzler. Sword is in very good condition, overall, blade retains light grey patina with some scattered darker areas and light sharpening marks, retains much of original polish. Hilt retains an unpolished patina with some very dark patina, one minor crack on right side of pommel. Grip excellent. Scabbard very good, some losses to black finish, otherwise a crazed surface with some minor scuffs, silver is dark and unpolished, drag with some dents and bends. Homespun belt retains a brownish patina with some minor stains and fraying. This is a great example of a utilitarian silver-hilted American saber that has survived in remarkable and complete condition.
