One of only two known examples, the other is shown on page 148, figure E-37 of Warren Moore's "Weapons of the American Revolution." This well-made and elaborate sword features a slightly curved English blade with large single fuller on each side. Steel hilt with pierced wagon wheel pattern guard with three branches coming together at pommel, decorated with relief rings, capstan. Finely carved wooden grip with fluted relief carved spirals. Very good condition, blade retains a brown patina with some areas of heavier patina and spotting, edge has a few minor nicks. Hilt retains a matching brown patina with a couple minor cracks. Grip very good with a few light marks. Overall, showing little wear and in excellent condition. This rare and desirable sword was probably used during the Revolutionary War by a prominent cavalry officer.
