This scarce large Philadelphia Deringer measures about 9-1/2" overall and features a rifles round barrel with top flat and steel rib mounted below. Diminutive front and rear sights, two inlaid silver bands at breech, stamped "DERINGER/PHILADELA" and "P" proof between them. Back action percussion lockplate is flat, engraved with scrolls, and marked "DERINGER/PHILADELA". Silver furniture engraved with rocker panel borders and sideplate, triggerguard, and buttplate with scrolls. Shield-shaped vacant wrist escutcheon, butt cap with nipple reservoir. Walnut 3/4 length stock with checkered panels around grip, replaced steel ramrod with brass tip. Good condition with barrel and lock retaining a blue and brown mixed patina with some freckling and wear to markings and engraving, hammer screw replaced along with silver inlay below bolster. Stock refinished , a few scattered marks from use. Silver furniture is very good with a few light marks from use. This is a very nice example, seldom found in this large size.
