Comprising: (A) Lancaster screw-tip powder horn with mirror and brass bands, probably by Smith. For similar examples, see horns number 68 and 69 on pages 216-219 of "Pennsylvania 'Horns of the Trade': Screw-tip Powder Horns and Their Architecture" by Arthur J. DeCamp. Horn has a 12" curved body with engraved brass bands above plug and below horn screw-tip, both bands with brass hanging rings. Fruit wood plug with brass-framed mirror inlaid in center, surrounded by relief carved rope border. Very good condition with a few light marks from use and minor scuffs. (B) Early Lancaster horn with turned butt, similar to the earliest known Lancaster horn, number 66 on pages 212-213 of "Pennsylvania 'Horns of the Trade': Screw-tip Powder Horns and Their Architecture" by Arthur J. DeCamp. Very similar other than lack of screw-tip and more ornate turnings. Two wire staple-type hangers. Good condition with a dry overall surface with scattered marks from use, scratches, and areas of minor insect damage. Some minor age cracks on plug and on tip.
