Documentation accompanying this gun form the factory confirms that it was made around 1922. The original set of barrels is blued with a solid matte rib and marked "E. G. CHURCHILL GUNMAKERS LTD./8. AGAR ST. STRAND. LONDON. W. C. 2" with nitro proofs on the bottom, they are numbered to match the gun. The second set of barrels has the same configuration and appear to be of German manufacture. Engraved casehardened boxlock actions. All surfaces profusely engraved with English rose and scroll engraving, both sides marked "E. J. CHURCHILL", and the bottom is marked "UTILITY MODEL XXV". The rib and bottoms of actions have gold inlaid "XXV". Features include ejectors, non-automatic thumb safeties, and single "MILLER" Trigger. Partially figured walnut buttstock with straight grip, checkered wrist, and red "Old English" buttpad. Checkered walnut splinter forearm with Anson release. Cased in a light brown vinyl covered Browning hard case with partitioned white fleece and brown canvas interior. Complete with an archive of information related to Churchill and this shotgun, including a letter that originally accompanied the gun from Churchill about why the "XXV" is such a good gun and asking for feedback about it, along with an original correspondence folder containing advertisement and information about other models from the same time period. Also included are several articles about Churchill shotguns, factory advertising brochures, shotgun specification from the company, and price lists. There is also a book titled "Some Notes About Churchill Guns" with a chapter about 25" barrels. There is also a large archive of correspondence regarding the sale of this gun, several articles of review about this shotgun, and a great deal of correspondence between the owners of this shotgun and Churchill Guns Ltd. There are also several targets shot with this gun showing patterns achieved. Good condition, as refinished. Original barrels show heave use, some minor denting, and scattered areas of freckling beneath bluing. They now retain about 90-95% reblued finish, bores are excellent and shiny. Actions are tight and crisp, and retain about 30-50% original case colors, trigger guard reblued. Stocks excellent as refinished and recheckered. Extra set of barrels is excellent, retaining nearly all of blue finish, showing little use. This is a very nice cased English set.
