This scarce swivel breech rifle features octagonal rifled steel barrels, the top flats both have partially visible signature "A.D.*Kornman" in script, near breeches. Kornman worked in Spring Mills in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Both barrels with front and rear sights and barrels unlock by pushing a lever, located in front of the trigger guard. Each barrel is fitted with a percussion bolster and nipple, barrels separated with a steel rib, ramrod on one side and figured maple stock on the other. Flat stamp engraved back-action percussion lockplate stamped with partially visible "E. ELWELL/WARRANTED" in an oval near the tang, double set triggers. Brass furniture includes a four-piece engraved patchbox with keyhole-pierced finial, the lid is a professional replacement. Sideplate of steel and in the shape of a back-action lockplate, unscribed "No. * 3". Silver star-shaped inlay above cheekpiece with a small triangle inlay on each side of wrist, small brass strip on cheek-piece. Figured maplestock of Roman-nose form with replaced forend between barrels. Replaced wood ramrod. Good condition with dark patina on barrel and lock, markings faint, some light wear, freckling around breech and bolster, and light scattered marks. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock good, a few scattered marks from use, some wear, and forestock of a slightly different color. Small chip under front of lockplate. Overall, a very nice looking swivel breech rifle.
