John Forker worked in Mercer County, Pennsylvania during the mid-1800's. This well-made rifle features an octagonal rifled steel barrel signed "FORKER" on top flat in in block letters. Flat stamp engraved percussion lockplate marked "LONDON WARRANTED" in center, double set triggers. Brass furniture includes a four-piece pierced and engraved patchbox with classic western Pennsylvania finial and decorated with folk-like designs and scrolls. Full-length figured maple stock of typical western Pennsylvania form. Replaced wooden ramrod. Very good condition with dark patina on barrel and lock, some freckling around breech and bolster. Brass retains a mellowing patina and shows little wear, engraving is sharp. Stock good, as refinished, with a few scattered marks from use and a few small areas of minor restoration. Overall, this is a a very attractive western Pennsylvania longrifle..
