This unique rifle features an octagonal rifled steel barrel with a decorated muzzle face. Flat stamp engraved brass percussion lockplate marked "H. ELWELL/WARRANTED" in an oval surrounded by stamped scrolls. Brass furniture includes an eight-pointed Moravian star in the middle of the but on the right side, retained by a single screw, a brass crescent moon on left side and a small ovoid wrist escutcheon. Pierced sideplate around single lock screw. Full-length highly figured maple stock with carved cheekpiece. Hickory ramrod is probably replaced. Very good condition with applied grey finish on barrel with some edge wear and some freckling around breech and bolster. Brass retains a mellow patina and shows little wear. Stock excellent with a few scattered marks from use and a few age cracks, minor chipping around lock and barrel pins. Left side of forend has a crack and some minor splinters missing. Overall, a very attractive rifle with wonderful flame grain maple, displays very well!
