This is a standard model. Features: two barrel bands, rod bayonet, 1884 rear-sight, and full length walnut stock. The breech block is stamped “Model 1884”. Left side of barrel has the eagle “VP” proof. The sideplate is stamped “US Springfield” with eagle. Buttplate is stamped “US”. Rifle has both of the sling swivels intact. The inspector stamps on this rifle are near mint. The left side has the SWP 1890 cartouche for Samuel Porter. The bottom of the wrist has the serif proof “P” in circle. As to condition, this rifle has seen very little use. The trigger guard retains approximately 75% original high polish blue finish. The block and tang retain generous amounts of case colors. The hammer and side plate retain approximately 70% finish with some original varnish. The barrel bands retain generous amounts of bright factory blue. The barrel retains 90% of the bright factory blue with just some minor age freckling. Retainer springs still retain nearly all the bright blue. Rod bayonet retains majority of blue finish. Even the sling swivels retain generous amounts of original blue. Fine near mint shiny bore. It would be nearly impossible to find a finer condition Indian wars trap door with so much original finish and beautiful dark stock.
