The book on Holland & Holland firearms with regards to serial numbers is extremely confusing. Serial no. 202 appears to be pre-1920 where as H&H reused numbers from the mid-19th century. This rifle has matching numbers on bolt, barrel, and frame. Finish is a high polished factory blue with a single leaf, folding rear sight, an adjustable hooded front sight, and the barrel has a sling eye shroud. Top of the barrel is stamped “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND ST. LONDON”. The barrel breach collar is stamped “HOLLAND’S. 275 MAGNUM RIMLESS CARTRIDGE” and has all the various English proof marks. The top of the receiver is stippled and comes with a scalloped, slightly swept bolt. Built on the Mauser action. Stock is a beautiful, checkered, walnut pistol grip with single retaining bolt in excellent condition. Stock has matching serial number and has a case colored pistol grip cap with storage lid. Stock has the classic straight comb and a horn buttplate with sling eye and ID plaque. The blue trigger guard is also numbered to this gun. Floorplate and trigger guard retain approximately 75% of the dull re-applied blue finish. The barrel and frame retain approximately 90% of what appears to be bright factory blue with sharp legends. Fine strong rifled bore. This rifle is housed in original canvas and leather takedown case with original labels, one of which is numbered to this rifle and lists the caliber. Also includes two boxes of Kynoch ammo; one box is full of shells and the other is empty. Comes with box of London cleaning patches, a small rod and an extremely old tube of BSA grease. This Holland & Holland gun is extremely early, scarce, and is in fine condition.
