Oriental Powder Company manufactured powder and was one of the four largest suppliers to Union forces through the American Civil War. This wooden Oriental Western Sporting Co. Powder Keg, approximately 9-1/4'' high by 6-1/4'' diameter. The black label with gilt lettering reads ''ORIENTAL/POWDER MILLS/BOSTON" and FF/WESTERN SPORTING POWDER/G". Wooden construction with wood and bark staves, threaded wooden plug on bottom with remnants of an old label. Very good condition with light crazing and a few minor losses on label.
