A total of 4500 of these carbines were made from 1853 to 1855, some of which were purchased by the US government. They were made by the Robins & Lawrence Company for Sharps. They featured a 21-1/2” barrel, .52 caliber, a priming system, brass butt plate, patch box and barrel band with case colored frame and walnut stocks. This example is rough and missing parts. Barrel is brown. No visible markings. The side plate is stamped "Sharps 1852". Wood is poor and stock is cracked. Frame is missing screws and has some pitting. Priming system is gone. Drop block is battered. Good display piece for relic collector.
