Browned, rifled octagonal steel barrel with engraved decoration in front of both sights and signed in script "W.H." on top flat. Brown flat lockplate and single trigger. Features plain brass furniture and a sliding wood patchbox. Inlaid with a brass plaque with an engraved double headed eagle in front of the buttplate tang. Full length figured maple stock with fluted and relief moldings on both sides of forend. Carved with relief designs around barrel tang, ramrod entry ferrule, around patchbox, sideplate and lock. Left side of buttstock carved with relief scrolls on both sides of cheek piece and above. Complete with brass tipped wooden rope burn ramrod. This rifle was made around 1969 by William Hartman who worked in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Barrel and lock retain almost all of brown finish. Lockplate and breech have some light freckling. Cock mechanism needs some adjusting. Brass retains a mellowing patina. Stock shows some wear and light storage marks. This would be a great deer hunting rifle.
