Curved steel blade with large single fuller on each side, ricasso marked "U.S. / D.F.M. / 1864" on right side and "EMERSON / & / SILVER / TRENTON, N.J." on the other. Standard cast brass hilt with two branches on right side, top of pommel with inspector's stamp "D.F.M.". Wood grip covered with brown leather and wrapped with twisted brass wire. Complete with steel scabbard. Sword in good condition; markings on blade are quite good and blade has much original polish with some light grey spotting. Hilt retains a dark unpolished patina with some scattered marks from use. Excellent grip. Scabbard retains grey smooth patina with on dent on back, near drag. A very nice Civil War sword.
