The other side features arms with an American flag and liberty cap, and a large "U.S.". The ricasso on the right side is etched "W.H. / HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA", the opposite side has a king's head stamp, and the top of the spine is etched "IRON PROOF". Standard cast brass hilt with pierced guard decorated with scrolls and gilt finish. Sharkskin wrapped grip with braided copper wire. Complete with brown leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts. For a similar example and more information, see page 347 of "Civil War Army Swords" by John H. Thillmann. Excellent condition overall. Blade retains about 95% original polish, with a few minor darker spots. Hilt retains about 70-80% gilt finish, grip is excellent with only a few nicks. Scabbard very good with some minor crazing to surface and darkening, mounts very good with much gilt, drag has a couple minor dents.
