Manufactured in 1878. Originally made for the U.S. military and inspected Henry Nettleton (H.N.). This revolver was period altered by shortening the barrel, adding a front sight and nickle plating and adorning with a pair of right panel carved ivory grips with eagle and snake. This design is most often seen in Mexico and border states. All parts have matching numbers with "H.N." inspector stamps, including the barrel. Early donut style ejector head. Revolver shows traces of the period nickel plating with a single line barrel address and three line patent date. Metal is basically dark brown patina. Gun indexes and locks up fine. Ejector spring is weak and it is missing the cylinder pin locking screw. Most screws have some degree of damage with couple being replacements. Strong, clean rifled bore. Grips are very good with slight shrinkage. Nice old Western cowboy gun with the "look".
