This was one of the primary pistols used by the French Army during the Napoleonic Wars. This example is in particularly nice condition and is profusely marked. Round, smoothbore steel barrel stamped "B / 1813" at breech with tang marked "M AN 13". Flat flintlock lockplate with rounded tail section, reinforced cock and brass pan. Inscribed "Manuf. Imp./de St. Etienne" in center, pan and lockplate also marked with inspector stamps. Standard brass Model 1813 furniture. Every component stamped with inspector marks. Walnut half stock, stamped "P.B. 1813" on right side of grip and "COGNET" on left side behind sideplate. Original, inspector-marked steel ramrod. Excellent condition, lock and barrel retain a grey patina with crisp markings. Original flintlock configuration. Stock has most of the original finish and clear markings, a few scattered light marks from use and two branded lines on left side, possible stamped intentionally during period of use.
