A true Bowie knife with a 9 - 1/4" saber ground spear point blade; 13 - 3/4" overall. Front blade face has four markings as follows: "G. WOSTENHOLM WASHINGTON WORKS - IXL - HUNTERS COMPANION - THE REAL IXL KNIFE". Handled in stag with one noticeable crack at center pin on front scale. Handle features a heavy nickel silver lobed guard, escutcheon, tang cover and back bolster. There are signs of repair work on forward mount. Knife comes with an early leather sheath with nickel silver throat and tip. Circa 1848 through 1870's.
