This model French pistol was copied by the United States as the basis for the Model 1799 North and Cheney flintlock pistol, which was the first U.S. martial pistol produced. Tapered round smoothbore steel barrel marked "80" on left side, near breech. Brass frame with lock on left side, brass pan and reinforced cock. Stamped with French proof left of pan and frame inscribed "Charleville" below cock. Brass buttcap and trigger guard, steel belthook mounted on left side. Replaced steel ramrod in the correct style. Partially figured walnut grip. Good condition, has been heavily cleaned overall and has applied patina on steel components. Frame and brass components have a mellow patina with some wear and scattered marks from use. Grip very good, as refinished, with some light scattered marks.
